South Azerbaijani political prisoner Ali Rezayi’s spouse, Mrs. Shiva Dadahszade was detained on February 8th 2015 and subjected to a lengthy interrogation at the Ettelaat’s Tehran Division.
During the interrogation she was directed to refrain from disseminating information on her husband’s detention. Shiva was threatened that in case she fails to comply with the Iran’s spy agency’s directive, she will be imprisoned for “anti-state propaganda.” Ettelaat confiscated Mrs. Dadashzadeh’s national identity card and released her on her recognizance.
Mr. Rezayi was arbitrarily detained at the Mehrabad International Airport on February 4, 2015. Iranian authorities have rejected his family’s repeated requests for information on Mr. Rezayi’s whereabouts and his circumstances.
Mr. Rezayi’s lawyer has not been able to visit his client and no criminal charges have been laid as of yet.
Human Rights Advocates fear for Mr. Rezayi’s well-being and believe that he is at risk of tortured and ill-treatment.
The Iranian Intelligence Agency, Ettelaat has made a number of unlawful arrests in many cities of South Azerbaijan and the capital, Tehran.
This morning the Ettelaat agents stormed into another well-known activist, Alireza Farshi’s residence in Tehran, performed an illegal search, confiscated his personal computers and belongings, arrested and immediately transferred him to the Iran’s notorious Evin Prison.
He is believed to be one of the activists behind a country-wide campaign aimed to obtain permission for peaceful demonstrations in Tehran and some cities of South Azerbaijan.
The South Azerbaijani journalist Said Matinpur’s family has raised serious concerns over his health condition. His family reported that Mr. Matinpur has been suffering from various infectious syndromes such as severe teeth, gum and ear infections with a risk of dispersion to his blood or other organs. The correctional facility has failed to provide him with adequate medical attention.
Said’s mother has told local media that Said is merely allowed to take the antibiotics supplied by the family, and he has no access to medical care. She also revealed that undelivered promises were made by judicial system about the prisoner’s conditional release following his allocation to Zengan prison in September 2014.

Mr. Matinpur was arrested 6 years back on false charges of “Attempt of Subversion of Islamic State” and “Espionage” and convicted to 8 years in prison. Mr. Matinpur was being held at Tehran’s Evin Prison. After political prisoners’ protest in Evin Prison Matinpur was transferred to a prison in Zengan, South Azerbaijan.
